Borealis Basecamp

Nestled on a remote ridgeline near Fairbanks, Alaska, Borealis Basecamp offers a front-row seat to wonder, where every detail is designed to immerse you in the magic of the north. You will stay in our signature sky view igloos, featuring clear, curved windows that allow you to witness the dancing aurora borealis from the warmth of your bed. To protect this pristine environment, we have made significant investments in sustainability, including connecting to the local power grid and upgrading to a central high-efficiency heating system. These efforts eliminate the need for continuous generators and drastically reduce fuel storage, ensuring your stay is both comfortable and environmentally responsible.

Our commitment to stewardship extends to our curated adventures, where you can explore the Alaska wilderness on thrilling dog sledding tours or take a ride on our new fleet of fuel-efficient, 4-stroke snow machines. We have also reduced local traffic and carbon emissions by drilling on-site water wells and consolidating supply deliveries, taking multiple heavy trucks off the road each day. From respecting wildlife habitats to sharing the rich history of the region, our operations are intentional and focused on preserving the awe-inspiring landscape for future travelers. At Borealis Basecamp, you can experience the luxury of stillness and the thrill of the wild, knowing your visit supports a cleaner, greener future.

Seldovia Nature Tours

Join me for a custom walking tour or hike in Seldovia! If you are interested in natural and cultural history, birds, wildflowers, photography, and tidepools, this will be a good fit for you. I will work with you to create an experience that is a perfect fit for your interests and abilities, whether it’s a relaxing stroll around town or a hike in the wilderness.

I’ve been running my woman-owned, single-employee business since 2018, and strive to create a travel experience of the sort I would like to have myself: affordable, human-powered recreation, quality insider knowledge with a local guide, personal attention, and small group size. Contrary to the current travel industry practices, rather than selling you an expensive package deal, I take an à la carte approach. You only pay for the services or items that you want.

Located across Kachemak Bay from Homer, Seldovia is accessible only by boat or plane and offers you a vacation from your vacation. It’s the perfect place to get away from it all, see the real Alaska, and take a big breath of fresh air. Although it’s an easy day trip from Homer, I recommend you spend at least one night. No matter how long you stay, you’ll wish you had more time here.

As part of my low carbon footprint lifestyle, I don’t own a vehicle. If you’d like to go beyond the Main Street area we will hire a taxi or rent a golf cart. This supports other local businesses and makes your tour custom-tailored to your needs.

I keep it simple and organic, and go with the flow — or “live by the tide,” as we say here in Seldovia!

Hope to see you here soon.

Cindy Mom, Owner and Guide Naturalist

Only by embracing inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility as values will we be able to foster a love of nature in all people and inspire them to be active stewards of the environment. Seldovia Nature Tours is a safe space where I welcome BIPOC, LGBTQ+, people with disabilities, and anyone who has felt excluded. I will do my best to accommodate your needs and make your time in Seldovia a great experience.
