Explore Skagway (Municipality of Skagway Visitor Department)

Founded in 1981, the Skagway Visitor Department is a department of the Municipality of Skagway. It is not a member‐based organization and represents all visitor services equally. This includes all accommodations, restaurants, shops, parks and non-profit organizations holding current business licenses with the Municipality of Skagway. We serve as Skagway’s official contact for travel media, meeting planners, tour operators and individual visitors.

Alaska Vistas

Alaska Vistas is a guide outfitter based in Wrangell, Alaska. We have been guiding in the area since 1995 and are privileged to operate in federally protected areas such as the Stikine-LeConte Wilderness Area and the Anan Bear & Wildlife Observatory. While we specialize in bear viewing at Anan, we also offer trips to the Stikine River and LeConte Glacier, multi-day rafting excursions, hiking, and paddling. We aim to share our love of Alaska through the trips we have designed around the beauty of Southeast and the things we like to do even on our days off.

Sitka Sound Tours

Sitka’s unique position located on the outer coast of Baranof Island exposes it directly to the notoriously unforgiving Gulf of Alaska. This exposure creates the perfect marine environment for migrating humpback whales who feed on the nutrient rich waters of Sitka Sound. Other local wildlife sightings include harbor seals, Steller sea lions, rafts of sea otters, lumbering brown bears, and perched bald eagles. Also be prepared to see up close Sitka’s commercial fishing activities, the culture and lifestyle of Southeast Alaska, remnants from World War II, majestic mountain vistas, hanging glaciers and icefields, and ancient forests!

Sitka Sound Tours provides you with unforgettable memories of your once in a lifetime trip to Alaska. Sitka Sound Tours provides whale watching and wildlife boat tours that promote environmental stewardship through scientific education, sharing local knowledge, and demonstrating responsible wildlife viewing. Locally owned since 2004, our licensed Captain, who is also an accomplished Biologist and Commercial Fisherman, provides an intimate, Naturalist-guided experience. Our tours include viewing whales and other wildlife up-close in three unique Alaskan Ecosystems: Rain Forest, Ocean Marine, and Outer Coast Kelp Forest. Our boat is a 30 foot SeaSport Pilot and features a warm comfortable cabin, with large windows that open fully, has plenty of interior seating for 6 passengers and a large aft deck, as well as a private bathroom. We can also accommodate collapsible wheelchairs.

Out To Sea Expedition Company

Founded in 2019 by Ketchikan locals Delaney Murphy & Eric Lunde, Out to Sea Expedition Company’s mission is to explore our world with an adventurous spirit in a sustainable way. The independent tour operator specializing in guided wildlife eco-tours, and custom outdoor expeditions, uses fully inflatable Zodiacs to explore the waters surrounding Ketchikan. In addition to operating environmentally conscious wildlife tours, Out to Sea provides marine transportation, and outdoor gear & rentals, helping locals and visitors alike craft their own adventures.

Inspired by their mutual love for the pristine wilderness and wildness of Alaska, the couple wanted to share their beautiful home with visitors from around the world in way that was both responsible and authentically Alaskan. The outdoor adventure company was established with the belief that we can have fun and explore our world, while also being good stewards of our environment and our community. Out to Sea strives to be economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable, and avoid creating negative impacts wherever possible. In addition to their partnership with industry and community organizations, Out to Sea Expedition Company is Whale Sense certified, and a proud member of 1% for the Planet, donating 1% of all sales to the research and conservation efforts of Audubon Alaska.

Our knowledgeable, local, multilingual tour guides cater to small groups or families who want to get away from the crowds and connect with Alaskans and nature. We think outside the box and perfectly tailor excursions, style of accommodation, and route for every client. Alaska is our home, let our expertise help you realize the vacation of your dreams.

Northern Latitude Adventures

Leave the crowds behind, small group adventure is what we do. Never more than six guests per tour so you always get the VIP treatment. Our glacier and wildlife excursions travel deep into Kenai Fjords National Park, through majestic fjords right up to the face of a calving tidewater glacier. Resurrection Bay and Kenai Fjords National Park are great areas for seasonal whale watching. We encounter humpback whales, killer whales (orca), and tons of other Alaskan wildlife on a regular basis. Join us and see why a whale watching or glacier and wildlife cruise with Northern Latitude Adventures is one of the best things to do in Alaska.

Prince of Wales Excursion Outfitter

At Prince of Wales Excursion Outfitter, we’re in the business of customizing small group adventures especially for clients who appreciate green businesses. We’ve worked with The Nature Conservancy, Destination Wildlife, and The Audubon Society to promote wildlife-based adventures on Prince of Wales Island. We provide full trip outfitting with the best outdoor equipment designed with Southeast Alaska in mind, transport by land and sea, and guided tours, which include cultural tours to the Organized Village of Kasaan. We provide paddling equipment and guided paddling outings, as well as whale watching from our 21′ Silver Streak landing craft. Transport to Forest Service cabins and access points via the road system and ocean are also available. The owner’s 17 year career with the US Forest Service gave her a strong background in outdoor safety, and at POW Outfitter, that’s our first priority in all we do.

Maple Leaf Adventures

Selected as an operator of “Best of the World” trips by National Geographic Traveler, Maple Leaf Adventures has pioneered conservation-focused, expedition cruises along the Inside Passage since 1986. With a reputation as one of the west coast’s top sustainable tour operators, its multi-day Alaska cruises give guests unique insight into the region’s natural wonders, often areas that were once under threat of destruction. Expeditions differ from your typical cruise ship; guests are immersed in the natural and cultural history of the world they are exploring, each day becoming more in tune with the rhythms of the coast. Small groups move between locations and live and dine aboard a classic, converted tugboat. She accommodates up to twelve guests with a crew of five, including a naturalist and chef.

Maple Leaf Adventures is an innovator in regenerative tourism. One of the first operators of small-boat travel in Alaska, BC’s Great Bear Rainforest and northwestern Vancouver Island, they allocate significant resources to support and build a conservation-based economy on the coast. Maple Leaf’s leaders are fuelled by their education in environmental studies and social responsibility. Their vision is to drive a made-on-the-coast, high-quality nature-based tourism industry, that has a symbiotic relationship with coastal ecosystems and cultures and integrates with both indigenous and western cultures along the coast.
