AGA Recognized by Global Sustainable Tourism Council

ATIA's Adventure Green Alaska (AGA) program, the only Alaska-based certification program for tourism businesses operating sustainably in Alaska, had its standard for accommodations and tour operators fully recognized by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) accreditation panel.

GSTC establishes and manages global sustainable tourism standards, focusing on increasing awareness of sustainable tourism practices in the industry and adds credibility to a program like AGA for consumers choosing experiences in Alaska.

AGA has come a long way from its humble beginnings, when a handful of tourism business operators volunteered their Saturdays to talk about how to recognize ecotourism in Alaska. Today, AGA's standards are recognized by an international community.

To date, more than 60 businesses have been certified by AGA. ATIA will be adding a new Summit Level to reflect GSTC standards, giving businesses a choice to pursue standard AGA certification or more advanced certification.
