Lighthouse Excursions

Lighthouse Excursions is a locally-owned and operated tour company that provides a scenic boat tour – the Lighthouse, Totems, and Eagles Excursion – to view Ketchikan’s abundant American bald eagles, the totem poles of Totem Bight State Park and the historic Guard Island Lighthouse. While cruising the coastline of the Tongass National Forest, the world’s largest temperate rainforest, our experienced local captain and their crew will share their knowledge of Southeast Alaska’s coastal history, native culture, and the interconnected ecosystems and the animals that call this region home. Whether relaxing in the heated main cabin or enjoying the open-air observation deck of the boat, we encourage visitors to keep on the lookout for American bald eagles, harbor seals, sea lions, moon jellyfish, pigeon guillemots, blue heron, deer, whales, and other wildlife. A complimentary snack buffet and non-alcoholic beverages are included in our tour!

strike it rich- Guaranteed! Join the Binkley family for a trip through Alaska’s gold mining history at Gold Dredge 8. Enjoy a close up view of the Trans Alaska Pipeline and a presentation about it’s construction and operation. Then take a seat aboard a replica of the narrow-gauge Tanana Valley Railroad and hear the conductor tell tales of prospectors who arrived by the thousands during the gold rush. The train ride takes you to Gold Dredge 8 where you will see first-hand how the dredge worked the gold fields, then receive a brief but informative course on gold panning. Once the train arrives at the camp, you will try panning for yourself! You will find gold- we guarantee it! Finally, explore the dredge camp and enjoy complimentary coffee and freshly baked cookies in the gift shop as your gold is weighed, then hop aboard the train and return to the station.

Join a scheduled trip, or they can customize a private trip to fit your schedule, activity level, interests, and group. They specialize in custom trips for families, groups, photographers, and birders. Their trips feature the area’s most experienced guides, stunning views of Denali, and great wildlife. They’ll take you to pristine natural areas where their guests make a close connection to Alaska’s natural landscape while moving under their own power and using all five senses. They give back, supporting local community and conservation groups by donating time, money and materials to projects such as the building of a community playground, sponsoring the Youth Conservation Corps, and volunteer trail days. Bear Paw Adventure

Bear Paw Adventure’s four uniquely Alaska log vacation homes are situated on an original Alaska homestead site on the west side of the Kenai Peninsula near historic Anchor Point. Denali Education Center

Denali Education Center connects people to Denali through fun, informative, and inspiring programs that build lifelong friendships, lasting memories, and a connection to nature. A for-purpose educational partner of Denali National Park since 1989, we serve visitors and residents with multi-day programs on our 10-acre campus, day programs, field trips, and special events. Through our hands-on explorations in Denali, participants develop a deeper appreciation for the natural world by discovering and investigating one of the world’s most pristine wilderness classrooms. We also offer a variety of fun, educational programs for Alaska youth. Programs range from day camps to multi-day trips and are offered to youth of all ages and abilities, providing opportunities for young people to explore the outdoors along with their peers, teach and practice the principles of Leave No Trace, and incorporate techniques that accommodate different learning styles. When you visit the Denali Education Center, you support our local efforts to provide these summer camps for youth as well as lectures, concerts, and workshops for the local community.
