Alaska is our home, and we’ve been committed to providing the highest quality trips from the beginning, over 40 years ago. We were among the first to offer raft explorations of the Kenai River into the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, and we pioneered small-group explorations from the protected areas of Kenai Fjords National Park and the Kenai Peninsula to Denali National Park and Preserve. We know all the areas we visit intimately. Today, we are proud to continue this tradition as Alaska’s leader in soft adventure trips. We believe smaller groups mean bigger experiences, better memories and more smiles.
Bear Paw Adventure’s four uniquely Alaska log vacation homes are situated on an original Alaska homestead site on the west side of the Kenai Peninsula near historic Anchor Point. The property has been kept as natural as possible providing habitat for wildlife such as moose and eagles that will be seen among the spruce, alders, willows and wildflowers. The buildings have been constructed primarily using simple hand tools from beetle-killed spruce taken off the property or nearby forests. Guests will enjoy the craftsmanship used in joining the logs and the unique log stairways, handrails and hand carvings. Be prepared to enjoy a sample of real Alaska with the comfort of warm and cozy energy-efficient heating, modern appliances, leather furniture and generous supplies. Located away from the busy commercial tourism centers, this is the place to get close to nature and enjoy real Alaska. Restaurants, shops, tour agencies and activities are just minutes away. Free on-site activities include wildlife viewing, horseshoes, beach volley ball, badminton, lawn croquet, miniature disc golf and picnicking. Bear Paw also provides free adventure planning and booking assistance for lodging guests and offers a variety of packages that can be customized to your interests.
Camp Denali & North Face Lodge’s longstanding family ownership is committed to preserving and refining the fundamental elements of our mission: excellence, community, and place. Your Camp Denali or North Face Lodge experience is personal. It is a unique blend of camaraderie among fellow adventurers and staff in a wilderness environment without parallel. At the core of our guest experience is a chance to live close to the land and, in exploring Denali’s wilderness, to learn about its ecology and history. More than facts and figures about Denali, we hope our guests return home with new ways of seeing, understanding, and taking care of the natural world in their own backyards. In addition, we hope that our continual improvements to the environmental sustainability of our operation will provide an opportunity for our guests, staff, and other small business owners in Alaska to learn about viable alternatives to the status quo. For us, providing excellent hospitality is not about attending to every luxury or amenity; instead we strive to ensure our guests’ comfort, meet their needs, and surpass their expectations. At Camp Denali and North Face Lodge you are welcomed as personal houseguests into our community of 50 staff. Our summertime staff live, work, and play together. Maintaining a healthy, supportive community is a major part of our daily work.
Chugach Adventures (formerly known as Chugach Adventure Guides and Class V Whitewater) was founded in 1996. The company explored & pioneered the Spencer Glacier area in 2000 and partnered with the Alaska Railroad starting in 2001 to offer trips via the Glacier Discovery Train to Spencer Glacier.
In the Fall of 2012, long-time Chugach guides and Girdwood locals, Melanee and Ari Stiassny, purchased the rafting business. Melanee & Ari share a passion for Alaskan adventure with their three kids. In winter 2015 /16, Chugach Adventures was awarded a ten year permit with the USFS Chugach National Forest to continue operating tours at Spencer Lake and are stoked to be now offering kayaking, overnight camping, heli hiking, and glacier salmon bakes at Spencer Glacier.
“We believe strongly in sharing our local stories and firsthand experiences of what we have seen and witnessed as Spencer Glacier has receded thru the years. We are committed to finding ways to protect our environment and aim to share our knowledge to our guests.”
