Alaska Outdoors is a small, owner operated business since 2001 committed to the long-term health of our planet. We emphasize sustainable practices in all aspects of our operation. Our guided small group tours travel to Alaska’s National Parks and protected areas and feature the perfect blend of camping at established campgrounds, mixed with indoor accommodations. Each trip includes world class outdoor activities and opportunities for customization of your trip experience. Explore Alaska with like-minded people who enjoy the benefits of traveling with a small group and knowledgeable guide while actively experiencing Alaska.
Alaska is our home, and we’ve been committed to providing the highest quality trips from the beginning, over 40 years ago. We were among the first to offer raft explorations of the Kenai River into the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, and we pioneered small-group explorations from the protected areas of Kenai Fjords National Park and the Kenai Peninsula to Denali National Park and Preserve. We know all the areas we visit intimately. Today, we are proud to continue this tradition as Alaska’s leader in soft adventure trips. We believe smaller groups mean bigger experiences, better memories and more smiles.
Join us on our Northern Lights Tour in Alaska! Get a dose of local culture by day, and by night look for and photograph the Aurora Borealis. Your local guides will provide the necessary wake up calls when the lights appear and help you capture the perfect photo. Learn what life’s really like in the interior of Alaska over lunch with local homesteaders, walk with reindeer, dogsled, learn to curl and unwind in outdoor geothermal hotsprings.
The Quintessential Alaskan Adventure awaits! Join us as we visit the famous Brooks Lodge for some of the most breathtaking grizzly bear-viewing in the world. From complete safety we’ll witness the world’s largest bears hunt salmon beneath waterfalls, before exploring more of what Alaska is famous for: whale watching in the Kenai Peninsula, traversing the charming coastal town of Seward, exploring picturesque forests, glaciers, mountains, lakes, and much more!
Great Alaska Adventures is one of Alaska’s true originals. Begun as a homesteader-based air taxi that morphed into a fishing lodge, we are now a one-of-a kind tour operator/sustainable lodge and fly in wilderness and bear viewing camp.
All that change has given us a unique perspective on the sustainability of any destination resort, but especially one that relies upon the natural resource that is Alaskan wilderness.
Always appreciative that we’ve been able to earn a (mostly) solid living doing what we love, Co-Owner Kent John was past president of the Alaska Wilderness Recreation and Tourism Association, the non – profit that spawned the great sustainable certification program that is Adventure Green Alaska.
As an operator, we have always promoted a sustainable and minimal impact ethos and believe strongly that in addition to sharing nature’s bounty with guests, it’s our responsibility to also share the challenges that that bounty faces. It’s especially powerful when the guests have just had their lives changed forever by those same animals that they now know are threatened.
Great Alaska is proud to be listed as sustainable by Adventure Green Alaska.

Dave and Wendy Doughty know they are lucky to enjoy Alaska’s wilderness, and hope that future generations will share this same good fortune. Focusing on the quality of their team and their method of operations, KAW provides sustainable and educational tours with a personal touch. They’ve partnered with Tour Green, Green Star, Adventure Green Alaska, and Leave-No-Trace. They have green purchasing practices, recycling policies, and facilities, and work extensively with the local community. But they know their guides are their biggest asset, so training is a top priority. Guides receive a month of paid training annually, and all hold current WFR certifications. Maintaining a small staff and collaborating with local experts, KAW has found the perfect balance to integrate sustainability, education, high quality service, and personal attention for its guests. Housing all the guides at the shop, KAW minimizes resource consumption while also creating a welcoming and laid back environment.
