TOURISM OFFICIALS FROM MOROCCO VISIT WITH ADVENTURE GREEN ALASKA
BUSINESSES TO LEARN ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY

Adventure Green Alaska (AGA), the state's only tourism certification program highlighting sustainable business practices, is hosting a tourism
delegation from Morocco this week, as part of a U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI), Office of International Affairs study tour.
The U.S. DOI put together the study tour to showcase promising strategies for promoting sustainable tourism and is featuring AGA and its
certified operators.
"We developed AGA to promote tourism businesses of all sizes that use green practices and to encourage other businesses to do the same,"
says Tony Turrini an AGA Board member. "We are proud to share our success stories with our guests and hope it will help them develop a
more sustainable tourism industry in their country."
The delegation, including officials from the Moroccan Department of Tourism, will visit with AGA certified tourism businesses in Seward and
Fairbanks.
Launched in 2008, AGA is the only such voluntary tourism certification program of its kind in Alaska and only one of two state-based programs
in the country. AGA certifies tourism businesses that meet specified standards of economic, social and environmental sustainability.
"One of our goals in developing this program is to recognize that eco-friendly tourism businesses can attract visitors and be both economically
and environmentally sustainable," says Deb Hickok, another AGA Board member and President and CEO of the Fairbanks Convention and
Visitors Bureau.
"Being noticed by international visitors and other countries says to me AGA is growing and businesses like those that are AGA-certified will
continue to attract new travelers interested in green destinations," said Hickok.
